spread a little love

Or the Zombie virus. Whichever.

See, there's this book coming out and since Valentine's day is just around the corner, I thought it would be appropriate to do a post on it. Not because the book is "Valentine's Appropriate" (it's kind of the opposite, actually) but because Valentine's Day is about LOVE and I luuuuurve this book.

Since it's V-day, here's my classic "You + Me = Us"-esque equation for you:

=

Which means, you friend, should want to get your hands on it STAT (releases 6/19/2012). I'm not big into zombies-- 28 Days Later scared the bejeesus out of me. And I tried/want to watch The Walking Dead because I hear such amazing things about it-- but I couldn't get through episode one because it's just so dang intense.

So I know what you're thinking, right? "Why are you recommending a ZOMBIE book, then?" Well, I'll tell you. Because although This is Not a Test is, technically, a "zombie book," it is SO. MUCH. MORE.

Enter: the brat pack. Now, imagine if John Hughes directed The Walking Dead. Or, imagine if on the sunny day at Shermer High, our fave fabulous five were still battling with their own insecurities and egos, but only after their entire town had been decimated by the Zombie Apocalypse.

RIGHT?! Now, think how great that book would be and then, enter Courtney Summers and her magnificently lovely prose. And her fabulous characters. And her knack for gritty realism and voila! You'd have This is Not a Test.

Our MC Sloane (tell me that doesn't  call to mind another famous Sloane? One who dated a boy named Ferris?) has had a tough life even before Zombies ransacked and consumed her entire city. Sloane is actually ready and willing to join the zombies and just be done with it all until she determines that the survival of those around her is very much dependent upon her own. Oooooh snap! The Prisoner's dilemma.

ANGST! Zombies! Teens trapped in their High School! Come on-- you know you wanna. ;)

Now, in case I still haven't convinced you that you MUST read this book, how about a good old fashioned giveaway? A pre-order of This is Not a Test. To enter, you must be a follower of this blog AND leave a comment below telling me what your weapon of choice would be when the Zombie Apocalypse strikes.

Enter by 11:59 PM February 14, 2012. Open Internationally (!!). GO!

Full disclosure: Ms. Summers and I share an agent but that is not why I'm pushing her book. I'm telling you to read it because it's a DAMN fine book. Mmmkay?

Zombies honestly scare the crap outta me. So you can tell, I'm not really a zombie person, but dude, COURTNEY SUMMERS! That's reason enough for me to want to read This Is Not A Test. And considering I live under a rock where the bookstores are only busy stocking up on vampire books, there's tough chance of me getting it. So, you know, I'd give an arm and leg to win this. Plastic ones, if you want ;)

Oh, and zombie weapon? I have no idea what works or what doesn't work on zombies considering I mostly keep my head buried beneath pillows when zombies make their appearance on tv, but I'd want guns around me. Ones that fit in the maximum amount of bullets. So there.

Thanks! :)

Awesome giveaway. My weapon of choice would be a sword. It would get the job done quick and I could chop off their heads right away. Also you don't to worry about running out of bullets if you would use a gun or losing a dinky little knife.

This book looks amazing. I've had my eye on it for quite a while. I love Courtney's work so winning this would be a dream! Zombies are my favorite "monster"! And I'm so excited for Sunday's premiere of The Walking Dead. Ugh, the mid-season finale was crazy! Can't wait to see what happens next!

If I were in a zombie apocalypse, I would want a sword or a completely metal spear. That should take care of them! Hahaha!

Thanks so much for this opportunity! It's awesome! :)

I really want to read this book, it sounds sooooo good!! I would have to day that if zombies suddenly appeared, first I would call all my friends and tell them I told you so, then I would probably panic at bit. Then I would go find a tank, because if I had my choice I would want a tank during a zombie apocalypse.

When Zombies strike my weapons of choice would be a sword because I doubt a gun would take them out. I can not wait to read this book and it would be awesome to win a copy of it.

Courtney Summers has been my favourite author for about a year now, ever since I bought Cracked up to be and Some girls are because I was tired of waiting for them to arrive at my library! I CAN'T WAIT ANOTHER FOUR MONTHS TO GET THIS BOOK!!! And, um, my weapons of choice are a bazooka, two samurai swords, and grenades :)

Thank you soo much for this amazing giveaway!

I would pick a raygun (I know they don't exist yet, but I'm sure that by the time the zombie apocalypse arrives someone would have invented them ...)

I'm so excited for this book!

My weapon of choice would be a crossbow. Reusable ammo, no sound! For close range, an aluminum baseball bat because it's strong enough to bash in a head but light enough for my tiny arms :)

Your responses are cracking me up! Blunt objects seem to be a popular choice! :)

OMG ME WANTS! ME WANTS THE PRECIOUS!!!! I want this book SO. BADLY. Is it wrong to pray to God to win a book? Hmm...guess if it is he'll forgive me??

I would use a scythe like the grim reaper uses. that way I can hack them from a slight distance and the whole grim reaper thing just seems aprapos. Or maybe I would keep some mandrakes on hand ;)

Great giveaway, I'm dying to read this book! My weapon of choice would be an ax, I think. Then I can just hack them all to bits.

Love Courtney's books!

My choice of weaponry would be a gun that shoots deadly lasers (blue plasma?). I want to stay as far as possible. Of course, I don't think a weapon like that exist yet, so my second choice would be a spear. Again, far, far away from the zombies.

Huge Courtney Summers fan here!!
I think I'd need to go with a sawed-off shotgun in the case of Zombie Apocalypse. Plus, I'd like a pet bear who eats the undead, please.

My weapon of choice would be a shotgun. Let's just say im pretty good at clay pigeon shooting, so bring on the Zombies! Actually zombies scare the crap outta me but i've heard good things about this so i want to read it so badly!!

My google friend connect name is: annabelle.hammond

Thanks for the giveaway i'm from the UK.

There's only one choice for me - a good old-fashioned shotgun. You don't have to be accurate or on target. You can fire it from a distance or bash someone close up.

Emma said...

If the zombies came for me, what would my weapon be? Oh... that's a difficult choice, assuming I could just choose one and all. I don't think it would be a gun, because I have reallyyy bad hand-eye co-ordination and I probably couldn't shoot to save my life. I'd be really really squeamish if I had to use an axe or a knife, so I'm hoping there's some other option. Like maybe a zombie-specific version of tear gas... that would knock out their undead brains and allow me to run to freedom. Yeah, I don't think I would do well at the end of the world, do you?

This contest sounds amazing!!! Thanks for the giveaway, and hope you have a great week.

I have been DYING to read this book for months! My weapon of choice would be a nice, sharp machete! I'd rather use a gun so I wouldn't have to get too close to the zombies, but I know I'd run out of bullets eventually so I have to go with the machete. Hopefully I wouldn't trip and lob off my own arm or leg though :)

Thank you for the opportunity to win a copy!!!

I have no idea. I guess only a gun could kill a zombie. If I want to survive from the Zombie Apocalypse strikes, I think the best weapon is to have Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead as a boyfriend.

Thank you so much for the giveaway! Mmmm... If a Zombie Apocalypse strikes my country I'd chose as a weapon a sword... I think. Most probabibly I would join to a group of suvivors and try to find a cute a strong guy willing to be my hero (? but that seems kind of difficult, so i'd probably hide somewhere with a sword and practice using it killing some zomibies :)

Thanks again for the giveaway, I'm very excited for this Courtney's release.

I'm dying to read this book.

Of course a kickass gun with unlimited ammunition would be great. But if I had to go with something I could grab right now, it would be my trusty softball bat. Home run! :)
